More about the Seychelles, dream holiday destination in the Indian Ocean
Seychelles is of outstanding beauty. Seychelles is a dream destination for holidays of all kinds: honeymoon holidays as well as family holidays. The wonderful beaches but also an incredible nature make Seychelles a first class destination. With its palette of subtle colours, ranging from the turquoise blue of the transparent sea to the emerald green of its luxuriant vegetation, with the glowing amber of its fine sandy beaches in between, the archipelago of the Seychelles is like a necklace of pearls lying on the deep blue jewel box of the Indian Ocean.
Situated some 8,000 km from Europe, the Seychelles archipelago consists of 115 islands scattered over an area of more than 400,000 sq.km. It has more natural and marine parks than anywhere else in the world.
An astonishing variety of flora and fauna can be found in the Seychelles. Besides the magnificent fish of the Indian Ocean (over 800 species), there are also turtles and flocks of brightly coloured birds. The Seychelles has an abundance of fruit, plants, and rare varieties of trees. It is the home of the famous "coco de mer", or double coconut, which has astonishing and suggestive shapes...
Booking accommodation at La Residence will make a Seychelles holiday affordable for many travellers.
Mahe, the main island
Although Mahe is the largest of the Seychelles islands, it is paradoxically the least known. Yet Mahé offers some enriching experiences for those who are able to understand and love it. Even when it rains, there is always some spot in Mahé where it is sunny: usually, all you have to do is cross to the other side of the island to find fine weather!
Mahe island in Seychelles, with an area of 150 sq.km., is the largest island of the Seychelles. Morne Seychellois, with a peak rising to 905 metres, also makes it the highest. There are many places in Mahé worth exploring. In the North, explore Victoria, the capital of Seychelles, with its well-known port and clock tower, an exact replica of Big Ben. Beauvallon beach is another beautiful place. South of Mahé is probably the most secluded. A very privileged place to stay for all nature lovers.
Off the beaten track…
Mahe, the main island of Seychelles, is still an unknown paradise for walkers in search of new surprises. You will often find yourself walking alone along the marked mountain paths that cross a grandiose landscape in the heart of the pristine environment of Mahé.
Remember to pack comfortable walking shoes and a hat to protect you from the sun. Bring along a water flask so that you can drink frequently. It is advisable not to walk alone but in the company of friends. A professional guide can show you the multitude of Mahé's hidden treasures.
Information and maps of paths can be obtained from the Tourist Office in Victoria.
The beach of your dreams at the end of a path
The landscape and vegetation of the southern part of Mahe are still unspoilt. This area has the most beautiful deserted beaches skirting underwater gardens which will leave you with unforgettable memories.
